Chelsea Ives:
Hi everyone! My name is Chelsea, and I’m a fourth year English Literature major at the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. My music style could be described as bandwagon – in other words I listen to whatever is on the radio and what is popular (sad, but true). Over the course of my final semester of school, however, I’m going to be expanding my musical horizons by listening to, and reviewing several songs and artists! Over the next four months, I will be updating my blog page with my own reviews of several songs which I hope you will enjoy! I will also be participating along with my blog mates in several interviews and roundtables in which we will discuss various artists and songs, albums and sounds! My primary focus for the blog will be on Avril Lavigne’s new Album being released February 15, 2019, Head Above Water. So stay tuned!
Allesandro Rotondi:
My name is Allesandro, and I’m a third year Jazz/Pop Guitar student who is currently earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a minor in English. I have been playing music since the age of two, and now perform frequently at local venues throughout Windsor-Essex County. In my spare time, I write and record my own music, and perform the guitars, bass, drums, percussion, keyboards, vocals, and occasional brass. I’m a huge fan of pop/rock ranging all the way from the 1940s to today, as well as jazz, bossa nova and folk rock. Some of my favourite artists are The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Elton John and Supertramp.
Danielle Bulhoes:
Hi! I’m Danielle, failed English teacher, returning student and hopeless dreamer. I love stories. And I know that’s a weird line to start off on, because aren’t we hear to talk about music? (Did you see what I did there? Hear…music…Alright, good talk.) When I say that I love stories, I mean that a lot of the media I enjoy and connect with is usually pretty story driven. Nothing I love better than a solid narrative. Which applies to the music I listen to. Queen, Adele, Journey and Run DMC are artists I love because they find ways to tell stories through their music. And stories have been passed down through oral tradition for…Well, I don’t know how long, but a long time! So I’m looking forward to discovering some new stories and sharing them with all you wonderful readers!
Julia Ristoska:
Hello! I’m Julia and an English Major. My true passion is sociology and I suppose it’s because I find the human race to be so fascinating. What I find amazing is despite any language barrier music can have the power to connect people together. This is true for me, since I love Korean music and I was able to discover a whole new world of culture in a single song. I have quite the musical history as I tend to jump from genre to genre that I connect to most at the time of my life. I went from boy bands to punk to indie to k-pop. Before, I had a strong belief that only “true” and “authentic” music was written by the band itself. However, my perspective and beliefs on music changed once I encountered k-pop. My god… did I automatically get addicted to its catchy beats and captivating dance moves. From this day my one goal in life is to learn the lyrics to a Korean song so I can finally sing it fluently in karaoke.
Mina Wiebe:
Hey everyone! I’m Mina, and I’m currently studying English and Creative Writing. I’m super excited to write about music, as it’s something I’ve never done before, and I love a challenge! My taste in music is constantly growing and expanding, and I’m always on the hunt for new sound so I’m ready to explore new artists and genres. I can’t wait to share my thoughts with others who share a passion for music!
Maria Ceglie:
“You don’t have to love me… you don’t even have to like me…but you will respect me…. you know why? cause I’m a BOSS” —Kelis, “Bossy.” Driving to work after a long night thinking about how to deal with a bunch of naughty employees, I blared this song in my car. I swear it gave me the confidence that was absolutely needed. At the time, I was managing an Italian super market and was considered a “young” manager. Therefore, I always had people running over me. That morning, when I played this song, I walked in, sat the two elder women down, and pinched the problem in the arse! It was the greatest feeling ever! Anyways, this is what music can do! It can give you the confidence you need to move on with your day. I truly believe that music and storytelling are the best remedies for any shitty day. I am currently working with an amazing group on our blog #NotesOnNotes, and three feet in at the University of Windsor as a 3rd year English and Sociology Major. If you want more storytelling, and to be enlightened with some good tunes, stay tuned to our blog!
Michaela Maxey:
Hey everyone! My name is Michaela and I’m a 4th year English and French Major! I love music, and typically listen to whatever is playing on the radio. I am currently broadening my horizons, however, and am finding that I enjoy a lot more genres that I would typically shy away from. I’m super excited to be working on this blog and I hope that you all enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy working on it!
Genna Bogoevski:
Hey, my name’s Genna! I’m an English major and I love listening to new sounds that have an interesting story or an interesting vibe. That being said my taste range is about as wide as the fat lady that sings. (ba dum tss*) Anything from Bon Jovi to Broadway, to boy bands, and everything in between—you can find it in my Spotify queue! I’m really excited to get to work on this project with all of you and help readers open up to try music that gets them out of their comfort zones!
Anthony Trocchi:
Hey everyone, my name’s Anthony and I’m a second year English major. I love music, and grew up listening to a lot of classic rock and jazz because that’s my parents favourite type of music. In high school, however, I really started listening to and appreciating music on my own, and expanded my tastes to genres like hip hop, pop and punk. I can’t wait to work on this blog and hopefully learn a lot more about the vast world of music.
